June Shining Bright!
What a month it has been for connectNEL! We’ve enjoyed the sun, and been busy as bees! So…
What’s kept us busy this month?
Financial Support
For June, our busiest calls have been for financial support – people are needing support for Attendance Allowance (AA), Personal Independence Payments (PIP), as well as, benefit support and advice, pension and debt queries, and more. connectNEL, working closely with the Centre4 Advice team, have been answering these queries and signposting to the most appropriate services, such as the Universal Credit (UC) helpline.
Household Support Grants (HSGs)
During the month of June, we’ve taken over 350 enquiries about the North East Lincolnshire Council Household Support Grant! This payment is available for people 16+ to help with the cost of energy, food, household bills and essentials. The scheme opened 13 May and closes 30 September, so you still have time to enquire. Our advisors have already had a huge success rate, which we’re very proud of. Other referral partners include the Lincolnshire Housing Partnership (LHP), Creating Positive Opportunity, Foresight, NAViGO, and the Oasis Community Hub – subject to individual circumstances.

Centre4 Youth Club!
This month saw the launch of the new Centre4 Youth Club! The Youth team have been setting up comfortable rooms, with so many activities, including arts and crafts, gaming, music, and of course, the chance to make new friends in a safe environment.
The group is suitable for any youths aged 14 – 19. Based at Centre4, its completely free!
If you know anyone who would like to attend, please call 01472 403 403.
Dunk Off!
Working with Association of Camerados, we had a Dunk Off on 20 June! It was daft fun that got everyone, from different walks of life, talking. If you want to try it yourself, it’s pretty simple – grab a biscuit of your choice, dunk it in your cuppa for 5 seconds, as you debate something silly and fun! Your debate lasts for a minute, and the last biscuit standing is the winner! Some debates included does pineapple belong on pizza, and mayonnaise – best condiment ever?
Most controversial of all though – what’s the best biscuit to dunk? With a whopping 39%, the winner was the chocolate hobnob!
Pride (A Deeper Love)!
Centre4 hosted a Pride Celebration Week in support of the LGBTQIA+ community, and Pride month! So much went on, from photos in our Pride frame, to creative children’s pictures, to a Community Feast in our Community Shop and Cafe! The wonderful staff at the Canopy created and sold this fantastic rainbow sponge cake – moist and tasty, it was worthy of a Hollywood handshake! connectNEL are proud to support the LGBTQIA+ community – staff and general public alike. After all, love is never wrong.
Thanks for reading, from all of us here at connectNEL!
