Veterans Services

Defence Transition Services (DTS) can provide information and support for service leavers and their families who are most likely to face challenges as they leave the armed forces and adjust to civilian life.

DTS work directly with service leavers to provide information and facilitate access to the support they need, whether that be from another government department, local authorities, the NHS or trusted charities. In addition, DTS can help with career preparation for life outside the military through housing advice and guidance, as well as a programme of housing briefs available to all serving personnel and their families accessible at any point through their careers.

Veterans Steadfast Support

We are all ex-servicemen and women from all three services, offering 1:1 peer support for fellow veterans suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), alongside many other mental health issues, including alcohol and substance misuse.

Our goal is to provide a safe environment where veterans can sit and talk openly to like-minded people who understand what they have gone through, and be frank about their demons, without any fear of repercussion and labelling. Our aim is to help give these veterans the ability to put into place their own coping mechanisms and strategies, so that they can control their own lives again and be self-sufficient. Then we can guide them back into their community and make them feel wanted and appreciated so that they can once again contribute to society as a whole.

Veterans of all ages from all three services welcome.

Veterans with Dogs

Veterans With Dogs is a charity dedicated to enhancing the lives of veterans of the UK armed forces who are struggling with mental health conditions through the provision of highly trained assistance dogs.

They specialise in breeding, raising and training assistance dogs to support veterans with a range of mental health challenges (including, but not limited to, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and depression). They offer a comprehensive service, from puppy selection to the formation of a lifelong partnership between veteran and dog. They do not require a specific referral from a doctor, but applicants must provide evidence of their veteran status and mental health diagnosis as part of their assessment process.

The aim of their work is to improve veterans’ independence, reducing social isolation and empowering them to regain control of their lives, ultimately fostering better mental health and well-being.
